about.

Responsible for building and testing new features, maintaining and optimising the code base, conducting code reviews on pull requests and defining technical briefs across the full stack.

  • Developed the back end functionality for content sharing; opting to use Google Cloud Task Queues to avoid inefficient cron jobs when scheduling reminders.
  • Delivered the front end for the new team profile feature; utilising Redux modules for simplicity, eager updates to ensure the best user experience and full end-to-end testing.
  • Led the planning, development, integration testing and deployment of the Microsoft Teams app v1; that delivers our content to users at a defined schedule or based off of their calendar events that meet the criteria.
  • Optimised the apps video streaming by migrating all the content to a platform and player that allowed adaptive bitrate streaming.

about.

Passionate full-stack engineer and graphic designer, with an additional 6 years of marketing experience delivering projects for renowned companies such as UBER, Amazon and Adidas.

So why the move? I love technology and the process of bringing ideas to life and saw the opportunity to apply my vision and creative thinking skills to software engineering as an exciting challenge and natural next step in my career.

I have always valued collaboration highly and coming from an agency background I thrive in cross-functional teams. I also know well, that problems do occur and my ability to troubleshoot, adapt and find unique solutions has always been a valuable skill.

You wouldn't be wrong in thinking that I lean towards front-end development, but...don't box me in just yet; problem-solving is my true passion.

Slug

A news aggregation platform.

Technology.

  • Full-stack web application, delivering news from 4 sources, each with multiple categories. 1 third party API, 2 RSS feeds and 1 requiring web-scraping.
  • All served to the front-end via a RESTful API, based on outlet endpoints and user preferences stored in the DB.
  • At the beginning I focused on the complexity of how to deliver JSON from the sources consistently. Using Insomnia and the node debugger to refine the data parsing.
  • I then wire-framed the front-end, developed the components and functions to render the AJAX responses. Focusing on keeping the code DRY and state controlled in the top level component.

Stalk

Plant care scheduler and social media platform.

Technology.

  • I loved the dynamic of group work on this project. We first decided the MVP requirements of our app, wire-framed the UI with the help of some UX students and developed the SQL DB associations collaboratively.
  • We then split the workflow into deliverables tracked using Trello.
  • I first took responsibility for the user authentication on the back and front-end, challenging myself to build this without a library.
  • We then pair-programmed some of the harder functionality, my team developed the rendering of real-time data for last watered.
  • Once this was done I focused on the UI, styling and integrating the components and building interactivity.

One

Aimed to organise the outreach for the Australian fires.

Technology.

  • Application where users can request or donate items based on collections created by other users.
  • I used Ruby on Rails for the MVC architecture. Beginning with the Models, I used a line item concept to achieve the duality necessary for the user and product tables.
  • Once thoroughly tested in the Rails console, I wire-framed the front-end and focussed on the Controllers and Views.
  • Using partial form rendering to achieve the functionality I was after in the Views and focusing on the CRUD operations for the controllers.
  • Finally, I integrated the Google Maps Api to display local collections or deliveries based on user location.

Tic Tac Toe

Classic game, with an unbeatable, semi intelligent AI.

Technology.

  • My first project, Such an exciting and fulfilling experience. Every feature I got working came with a huge sense of achievement.
  • Most proud of integrating a semi-intelligent AI. That will first look to block any possible user wins and then look for a win.
  • Also, the separation of concern between UI and game logic.
